10 Signs it is Time to Look For a New Job

By Maria Alexander, CPC, Research Recruiter

At some point in your career you will find yourself at a “career standstill”, wondering if it is time to start looking for a new opportunity.   Here are 10 signs that it is time for a change.

  1. You would rather scrub every square inch of flooring in your house on your hands and knees instead of going into work.
  2. You watch the clock tick away on Sundays, and you count the minutes, with dread, until you have to go back to work on Monday.
  3. You daydream of walking into your boss’s office and telling them they can try and make do without you (that is the G-rated version of course).
  4. Once you get to work, time slows down to a crawl and you keep looking at the clock thinking, “Really!?, have only two minutes have gone by, since the last time I checked?”
  5. Spending your day at the dentist’s office getting a root canal seems like a better alternative than going to work.
  6. What started as one glass of wine, to relieve the stress of the work day, has turned into a bottle.
  7. You spend more time at work thinking about what you would rather be doing instead of what you should be doing.
  8. You keep trying to find any excuse to call into work, and are actually happy when the hot water tank explodes and floods your basement, because now you have to stay home and wait for the repairman.
  9. You are jealous of the copier and stapler, because they have more room for job advancement than you do.
  10.  You spend the majority of your time complaining about how much you dislike your job to anyone that will listen (that does not include your immediate family, they are done listening to you drone on and on).

If you have experienced some or all of these signs, it might be time to take the next step and look for that new job.  Finding a new career opportunity may take some time, but in the end most people look back at the change and see that it was the best decision they ever made!
